This week, the CBI arrested an ex-DJ. Twisha Sharma’s mother-in-law is Giribala Singh. Twisha was discovered in the house on May 12 in the city of Bagmugalia in Bhopal. Her age was 33. Former Miss Pune, actor and MBA graduate. Her sudden death enraged the nation. Now the investigation is taking a whole new turn
CBI took prompt action on Thursday. They arrested Giribala right after the Madhya Pradesh High Court threw out her anticipatory bail. She was walking free since May 15th. The sessions court in Bhopal provided her that on the very day the police filed the FIR. That quick bail was quite a surprise. Within a few hours it was done. Twisha’s husband, lawyer Samarth Singh, is already in the custody of CBI. He went missing for 10 days. He disappeared during the time the police searched for him, and eventually surrendered to the police. Now, the husband and his in-laws’ elder woman are sitting in the CBI office for a detailed questioning. This vast probe was transferred to the local Bhopal Police Special Investigation Team only a few days ago on May 25 with the realization that the local probing was getting very messy
The High Court Reverses course.
The late night order was issued by Justice Devnarayan Mishra on May 27. He utterly demolished the reasoning of the lower court. The High Court had pointed out that the Bhopal sessions judge had ignored “vast portions of evidence” before granting protection from arrest
Two petitions were made challenging the bail. Navnidhi Sharma, Twisha’s father, filed one. The other was filed by the Madhya Pradesh government. The law was on the side of the court. Solicitor Gen. Tushar Mehta appeared for the State. He has informed the court that the process in the lower court was rushed, which raised doubts regarding it. Siddharth Luthra, the senior advocate, represented the family of the victim. He noted that the FIR had been registered only on May 15 and age cannot be the basis for giving the accused a clean chesek. Giribala is 63 years old. Her lawyers attempted to keep her out of jail because of her age.
The High Court zeroed in on the case diary. The judge’s references were to witness statements taken immediately after the death. Five different prosecution witnesses, mostly Twisha’s family members, had been talking to investigators since May 13. They have always claimed to be harassing Twisha for dowry and pressurizing her to abort the recent pregnancy, claiming she was being harassed by Giribala and Samarth. The trial court somehow overlooked this. There were also a couple of bank transfers that were key to the lower court. In defense, Giribala sent money to Twisha’s account, which showed that they were not demanding any dowry. Justice Mishra threw this out. He noted that the transfers of money took place from October 2025 to February 2026. None of them occurred at her time of death.
The Medical Reports Made Available
The physical evidence contributed a lot to the dismissal of the bail. The autopsy report is very bloody. It confirmed death by hanging as it happened before death. But that was not the only thing the doctors found.
Twisha had six different injuries on her body. All of them antemortem – she received them before she passed away. She had 4 injuries on her left arm. The one was on her ring finger. Another one was on her head. The defense lawyers tried to explain this away. The cuts and bruises were most likely sustained while her body was being removed from the ligature or perhaps due to the urgency in which her body was being rushed to AIIMS hospital in Bhopal, they said.
The High Court torpedoed that theory. The medical query report completely eliminated the possibility that these injuries were caused by handling the body after the hanging. Cuts were pre-arranged. The CBI also informed the court that Giribala needed to be arrested to make a proper investigation of these physical findings. In the last few years, they’ve recreated the crime scene at the apartment complex and suspect that evidence was tampered with. The police took the ligature and a mobile phone and a laptop keyboard on May 13 but seized the digital video recorder from the house is believed to have taken place later. Investigators are seeking information on whether evidence was tampered with ahead of cops arriving at the scene.
A Marriage Cut Short
Twisha and Samarth were married on 9th December 2025. It took her but little over five months to be dead. The information that has been filtered out of the investigation is rather disturbing of those few months.
She got pregnant early on. The court stated it was a “fact” that the pregnancy was terminated within two months. Her family says her husband and mother-in-law were the ones who insisted on the abortion. The defense says the shooting was a desire of Twisha’s. However, the WhatsApp Chats have an extremely particular narrative. The High Court took into consideration the messages of April 30, May 7, May 9 and May 11. Twisha is alleging she told her relatives her husband did not believe the baby in her womb. She sent out messages stating her in-laws are accusing her of being addicted to drugs. She told her family that she could not live happily and even that she couldn’t cry. She was in a terrible jam, she said.
She requested her mother to come out of Bhopal on 5th May. The day of her death on May 12, she made a WhatsApp call to her mother. In that call, it was believed that her husband was yelling at her in the background before the call cut off. These chats were not taken into account by the trial court in granting Giribala bail, the High Court said.
The Post-Bail Press Conference
Obtaining bail is a thing. The fact that Giribala Singh did not stop there and started to go around the city creating a problem for the lawyers defending her was the very next issue in her defence.
She gave a press conference on May 18. The retired judge, however, did not sit idly by as law enforcement had their investigations into her daughter-in-law’s death.Rather than sitting quietly, the retired judge went on the offense. Twisha’s family lawyers told the High Court that Giribala used the media to actively assassinate Twisha’s character. The state prosecutors said she was completely remorseful.
