The Midnight Arrival from Alwar

On receiving that alarming call from his son at night, Sharma’s father didn’t need to take any time. He hurried from his house in Alwar, Rajasthan, to inquire about the young judge. The father was able to get to the Green Park Main residence about midnight. He came in with the hopes of calming down whatever may have been agitating them at home to make such a drastic declaration on the phone. Unfortunately, he did not come to an immediate end to the long-standing household discord.

Conflicts Behind Closed Doors

When the family finally arrived, it was reported that there was a very volatile atmosphere inside the apartment. Relatives claim that a loud argument was actively taking place between Sharma and his wife, Swati Malik. Swati is also a judicial officer attached to the Delhi courts. The father said investigators that Swati was heard yelling angrily from another room. In the meantime, he claimed that his son was crying and looked deeply upset by the altercation

The Sister-in-Law:

The family claims much more than just the typical marital issues that pitted the young couple against each other. They have strongly accused Sharma’s sister-in-law, Nidhi Malik, who is currently posted as IAS officer at Jammu. The late judge had reportedly complained to his father that Nidhi had an undue influence on their family life. He said that his life had become so intolerable because he was constantly being interfered with by the family. They have said they tried to contact the wife’s family to address these issues, but this was consistently frustrated.

A Desperate Search Inside the House

A loud argument ensued, and then a quiet silence fell over the Safdarjung apartment, that was unsettling. The family soon found out Sharma was gone from his bedroom and started searching the house. They called his cell phone and heard the ringtone faintly booming from behind the locked bathroom door. After knocking and shouting several times, there was no response inside the room. The family quickly realized that something had gone very wrong behind that door and panic quickly set in.

The Breach and Recovery

Safdarjung Enclave police officers promptly sealed off the apartment and started preliminary investigation into the crime scene.

The First Information Report Filed

After formal statements have been taken from the grieving family, police have taken concrete legal action. Authorities have created a First Information Report in the name of Sharma’s wife and sister. The recent Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provides for harsh punishment in the FIR. The main charges against the accused are under Section 108 which directly talks about abetment of suicide. Investigators also incorporated Section 61, criminal conspiracy, because the family’s complaints against the two sisters were made collectively.

The First Generation Lawyers Association responded quickly to the situation in the open by making statements. They sent an open letter straight to the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Devendra Kumar Upadhyay. The organization made a strong point of stressing that this particular tragedy had nothing to do with the volume of work. They said they wanted a detailed, impartial police investigation into the exact nature of the alleged domestic abuse. Moreover, they formally asked that the wife be temporarily suspended from carrying out her judicial obligations until the probe is over.

Professional Legacy Left Behind
