Why I Will Not Be celebrating Independence Day (2) by Justice Katju

Celebrations will be held all over India today ( Independence Day ).

But what is there to celebrate about ?

Real independence is independence from poverty, unemployment, hunger, malnutrition, lack of proper healthcare and good education, and caste and communal prejudices. Do we have these ? If not, then all these celebrations are buffoonery, clownery, and Mad Hatter’s parties.

So my countrymen and countrywomen, celebrate as much as you like, but don’t expect me to join you in this tomfoolery, shenanigan, and gimmick. I prefer to sing this song on this occasion :
