Kerala Consumer Court Fines myG Future ₹15,000 for False Biriyani Pot Discount Claim

So, get this on June 27, 2025, the Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Kochi basically called out myG Future for pulling a fast one with their biriyani pot ad.

Picture this: they slapped a fat ₹3,299 “original” price tag on a 10-litre biriyani pot, then hyped it up with a “special” offer of ₹1,199. That’s, what, a supposed 64% discount? Yeah, right.

Turns out, a senior citizen bought the pot, checked the invoice, and surprise, surprise the real price was just ₹1,890. Not even close to that inflated number. Naturally, the guy wasn’t having it and dragged them to court under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Honestly, you gotta respect the hustle, but also… maybe don’t mess with people’s biriyani pots.

So, the bench yeah, that’s President D.B. Binu along with V. Ramachandran and T.N. Sreevidhia basically called it out as a “misleading advertisement” (yup, Section 2(28) and all that legal jazz). myG Future? They just ghosted.

Didn’t bother showing up, didn’t answer any of the notices nothing. So, the whole thing went ahead without anyone arguing back, and the consumer’s side just stood unopposed. Classic case of silence not being golden, huh?

So, the court basically told the retailer, “Hey, cough up that ₹519 you overcharged the guy, and while you’re at it, pay him another ₹15,000 for all the headache and legal mess.” Plus, myG Future’s now on the naughty list they’re banned from pulling any more of those shady discount tricks.

Honestly, this whole thing just screams, “Don’t mess with consumers.” The commission didn’t mince words about it either straight-up said that honest pricing and clear info aren’t just a nice-to-have; they’re how you keep people’s trust and stop companies from screwing over folks who might not know better. Makes sense, right?
