Samay Raina and Alia Bhatt’s Controversy at ‘India’s Got Latent’ Episode and The Supreme Court Case On Tuesday’s (April 9) latest episode of Samay Raina’s stand-up special, India’s Got Latent, that features the cast of YRF Spy Universe film Alpha to promote their upcoming release, Bollywood diva Alia Bhatt not only received praise but also the attention of Supreme Court in another matter altogether. We will see Alia Bhatt, who plays an antagonist role of ‘Shaitan’ in her upcoming movie ‘Alpha’, alongside her ‘Jawan’ co-star Nayanthara and the other cast members – Sharvari, Dhruv, and Abhi as they appeared to promote the YRF film on India’s Got Latent. The makers teased the same by posting clips from Alia Bhatt’s appearance on her social media handle.
The makers posted a clip of how Alia reacted when Samay targeted her and the actress left the comedian and the internet in splits.
“Bhatt on Latent: Alia Bhatt makes the show all about love!” shared, Netflix India on their Instagram stories. During Samay Raina’s appearance with Alia on Tuesday’s episode of his new YouTube show’s premiere with YRF’s ‘Alpha’ starcast, the makers released a sneak peak video of the segment with Alia where the star received accolades and not flak. She not only came as guest but also received appreciation for handling one of the jokes made at her by the comedian like a pro!
A joke cracked on Alia’s by one of the panel members invited severe backlash from a few members of the internet who labeled the joke as offensive and crude.
However, netizens were quick to notice how Alia handled the joke – while other panelists cracked laughter, Alia consciously avoided it and kept mum. This mature move by the actress was praised by many and Alia started trending over internet with netizens lauding her for not making a joke of it. Meanwhile, Supreme Court took up the issue regarding a petition against Samay Raina for making jokes over persons with disabilities.
Supreme Court pulled up comedians including Samay Raina, Vipun Goyal and Balraj Singh Ghai for making ‘degrading and derogatory jokes’ concerning people with disabilities and has directed them to publish unconditional apologies in their social media and YouTube handles. This decision comes after an NGO for patients with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) highlighted the problematic jokes told by these stand-up comedians during their acts. According to an online portal, Supreme Court asked them to be responsible comedians if they are into the profession of ‘commercial speech’.
