The INDIA alliance, a coterie of opposition parties in India with diverse agendas, which was lying moribund till now, has suddenly emerged like a genie released from a bottle, a Jesus Christ arising from his grave, or a Phoenix arising from the ashes.

What has brought together this motley group of Indian politicians is the alleged rigging in the voters list for the forthcoming Bihar state assembly elections ( due in October/November this year ) by the Election Commission of India which ordered a Special Intensive Revision ( which could allegedly deny voting rights to 6 to 8 million eligible voters in Bihar ) and Rahul Gandhi’s ‘expose’ of large scale ‘voter theft’ in an electoral constituency in the state of Karnataka, which has been described by some to be an atom bomb.

I have written the article below about this
The opposition parties, always looking for a ‘mudda’ ( issue ) for raising a hue and cry, have got together and joined hands.
Yesterday, 11th August, many opposition MPs, including Congress Party leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, Trinamul Congress’ Mahua Moitra and Sagarika Ghose, etc started a march from Parliament to the Election Commission office in Delhi, but were stopped by police barricading midway. Later in the night they held a dinner meeting
Opposition leaders are saying that this ( alleged ) electoral rigging is the murder of Indian democracy
But does true democracy exist at all in India ? Democracy, as defined by former US President Abraham Lincoln, means rule by the people and for the people, whereas everyone knows that India is ruled by a handful of crooks, and for the benefit of a handful of big businessmen and corrupt politicians.
Moreover, as stated in my article above, the vast majority of Indians ( possibly upto 90% ) vote on the basis of caste and religion. They do not see the merits of the candidate, whether he is a good man or bad, educated or uneducated, criminal or not, etc and they do not consider the rise in unemployment, exponential price rise of essential commodities like food, medicines and electricity, lack of proper healthcare and malnutrition, etc, of the masses but only see the candidate’s caste or religion ( or the caste or religion his party claims to represent ).
So how does it matter whether the voters list has been correctly prepared or not ? Even if it has been correctly prepared, most voters will still vote on the basis of caste/religion.
So the opposition parties are mistaken if they think that the issue of rigging in the voters list will have any effect in the forthcoming elections. 90% voters will still continue to vote on the basis of caste and religion, as they have done before. The agitation by the INDIA alliance, and the hue and cry raised by them, are therefore just gimmicks, thinking that thereby they will increase their vote share and help them come to power in the centre, but will come to naught
