The Gitenstein Institute Advanced Research Fellowship is a paid opportunity for law students who want to build their knowledge and experience in health law and policy. The fellowship is offered by the Gitenstein Institute for Health Law and Policy at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law. About the 2027 Gitenstein Institute Advanced Research Fellowship

The Gitenstein Institute Advanced Research Fellowship is designed to help law students gain practical experience in legal research and writing while learning more about health law.

Fellows work with faculty members and support projects that focus on health law, public policy, ethics, and community engagement. Throughout the academic year, students also take part in events and activities that help them build professional skills and prepare for future careers in health law.

Fellowship Benefits

  • Each Research Fellow receives a $5,000 stipend during the academic year. The stipend is paid from September through April.
  • Fellows gain experience working on legal research and academic writing projects with faculty members.
  • The fellowship helps students improve important professional skills in legal research, legal writing, policy analysis, community engagement, event planning.
  • Students work with faculty members, legal professionals, and others involved in health law and public policy.

Fellowship Responsibilities

  • Fellows assist professors with legal research and academic writing projects related to health law.
  • Students help support several Institute initiatives, including the CHAT Project, the Medical Legal Partnership (MLP), the Hofstra Bioethics Blog, the Legal Map.
  • Research Fellows help organize and support community outreach activities, institute events, academic symposia, professional workshops
  • Fellows also assist with planning Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programmes for attorneys.
