Central Work Activities and Important Responsibilities.
The Legal Counsel of Compliance and Data Privacy will oversee two areas of importance in the legal framework of Marriott, which are: Global Compliance and the Global Privacy program.
1. Compliance: a Culture of Integrity.
This lawyer will be a pillar of the ethics and international compliance of the company. The job is to be in close coordination with leadership committees and internal departments to have strong and efficient legal and ethical standards.
- Governance & Strategy: Support key partners with the Audit Committee of the Board, Legal and Ethical Steering Committee (LESC) and Legal and Ethical Compliance Committee (LECC) of the APEC Continent. This involves drafting of meeting agendas, the coordination of materials and the delivery of key updates.
- Programs & Initiatives: Liaise with other departments such as Internal Investigations, Internal Audit and Corporate Finance to implement a variety of compliance programs.
- Investigations: Work as a senior member of investigation working groups and offer legal advice and strategy on sensitive issues such as anti-corruption, anti-bribery and other internal investigations.
- Training Publications: design and establish legal compliance training that emphasizes such areas as the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), the UK Anti-Bribery Act and the regulations of the Office of Foreign assets control (OFAC). It is an opportunity to create a culture of alertness and consciousness.
- Research Knowledge Management: Maintain legal knowledge in compliance laws, regulations and case law in APEC jurisdictions and make sure that the company is not caught up in regulatory reform.
2. Data Protection and Privacy: Data Security and Data Protection.
The legal counsel will be on the front line to defend customer and company information as technology and data collection becomes more complex. This incorporates two-fold concentration on governance and practical legal assistance.
- Governance & Strategy: Legal advice and support to the Privacy and Information Security Continent Committee.
- Legal Research and Analysis: Keeping track of ever-changing data protection and privacy laws in APEC and converting complex regulations into practical legal guidance to the top management.
- Gap Identification & Remediation: Perform compliance assessments to uncover possible gaps in compliance and head remediation initiatives, so that the operations of the Marriott premises comply with or even surpass the data protection requirements.
- Legal Advisory/Training: Provides legal advice on new business ventures and projects, drafting and keeping of internal privacy policies, as well as development and delivery of training materials to achieve mass compliance.
- Incident Response: Legal advisory services regarding data protection incidents and communicating with the national and local authorities, when necessary, liaising with global teams to achieve a fast and efficient response.
