Dhirubhai Ambani University School of Law Redefines Legal Training for a Globalized India
With the announcement of the founding of the School of Law, Dhirubhai Ambani University has made a significant step toward transforming legal education in India. This endeavor is prepared to combine rigorous academic instruction with industry-informed practice, and it is a venture that has the potential to combine the two.
In a world that is increasingly becoming more globalized, where transnational legal concerns, such as data privacy and international arbitration, require a sophisticated knowledge and the ability to adapt, the new School of Law aspires to put its graduates at the forefront of both the Indian legal arena and the global legal arena.
This program is a reflection of the university’s larger transition into a multidisciplinary institution, which is in line with the goal of the university’s founder, Late Shri Dhirubhai Ambani, who worked to promote excellence on a global scale.

Prof. (Dr.) Avinash Dadhich, who was only recently appointed as the Founding Director of the School of Law, is making sure that this enormous initiative is carried out successfully. Due to the fact that Dr. Dadhich has held prominent roles such as Director at Manipal Law School and Dean at IFIM Law School, Bengaluru, he brings to the post a rare blend of academic leadership and hands-on legal practice.
His study in the regulation of artificial intelligence, data privacy, and competition law, which is supported by fellowships and advanced degrees from renowned international institutions, exemplifies the School’s dedication to being at the forefront of cutting-edge legal fields. Dr. Dadhich made the following remark: “I am excited to work with the DAU team to build a world-class institution in legal education,” he said, highlighting the fact that the purpose of the School is aligned with worldwide standards of excellence.
The academic framework of the School of Law includes both undergraduate and postgraduate programs that are intended to cultivate a sense of specialization and practical skill.

At the postgraduate level, the Regular LL.M. program lasts for two years and provides emphases in a variety of fields, including Data Privacy, Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Law; Law of the United States and the European Union; Construction and Arbitration Law; Commercial Aviation Law; and Banking, Securities, and Financial Law.
Through the integration of core “bedrock” courses with specialized electives, each focus ensures that graduates have both a wide understanding of the law and a profound understanding of the subject area.
In addition to this, there is a Blended Master of Laws program that is designed specifically for working professionals. This program makes use of virtual learning platforms to provide the same comprehensive curriculum while also providing flexibility for individuals who are juggling their employment and their studies.
In the course of the Regular LL.M. experience, students are required to participate in a global immersion trip that lasts for ten days. During this tour, they go to several legal centers like Geneva, Paris, Brussels, and The Hague.
The practical issues of cross-border regulation are brought to light via this hands-on experience with international organizations and courts, which gives important insight into the operation of global legal systems.
The third semester then concentrates on internships that last for four months and are located in Asia and other parts of the world. These internships are organized through the university’s network of industry partners.
Legal clinics and the writing of a dissertation are the primary focuses of the final semester, which culminates in a capstone project that integrates theoretical studies with professional experience.
Further evidence of the School’s commitment to globalization may be found in its faculty list. Courses will be led by distinguished academics and practitioners who hold PhD degrees from universities in the Russell Group and the Ivy League.
These individuals will contribute a variety of viewpoints that have been formed by research fellowships at prestigious organizations such as the Max Planck Institute in Munich and King’s College London. Students will be equipped to handle the complexity of a digital economy and developing regulatory environments as a result of this mix of academic rigor and real-world understanding, which guarantees that students interact with contemporary legal issues and new technology.
The School of Law in India has adopted a multidisciplinary paradigm that encourages flexibility, skill-based learning, and research innovation. This is in accordance with India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Through the incorporation of legal studies, entrepreneurship, public policy, and information technology, the curriculum contributes to the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP), which are to promote holistic education and industrial relevance.
This strategy not only improves employability but also fosters the creation of a new generation of attorneys who are capable of making a contribution to national goals such as “Viksit Bharat 2047,” which is founded on the principles of inclusiveness and sustainable development.
A further pillar of the School’s strategy is the partnership between the academic world and the business world. To this purpose, the university will hold national seminars and executive development programs.
One example of such a program is the recent “Navigating the IP Landscape” event, which brought together academicians, legal experts, and thought leaders to discuss intellectual property concerns in a hybrid format.
These events serve two purposes: developing intellectual discourse and fostering networking among current students, alumni, and industry stakeholders. Both of these goals are accomplished through the events.
By establishing these links, the School intends to bridge the gap between academic study and practical application, so guaranteeing that graduates are instantly relevant to employers across a variety of industries.
Strong methods of support are available for the development of careers. Students can get internships and full-time employment through the university’s placement cell, which works in conjunction with enterprises, law firms, and international organizations to find suitable opportunities.
Among the opportunities available are research assistantships at regulatory bodies, in-house legal employment at global corporations, and clerkships with top advocates. Additionally, the School’s legal clinics offer pro bono assistance to areas who are marginalized. These clinics teach students about social responsibility and ethical practice while also helping them hone their advocacy abilities.
The establishment of the School of Law at Dhirubhai Ambani University marks a momentous occasion in the history of legal education in India. By combining academic brilliance with practical immersion, worldwide perspectives with local relevance, and interdisciplinary learning with policy-driven aims, the School is well positioned to educate a group of legal professionals who are prepared to meet the difficulties that come with living in a globalized society.
This institution has the potential to reinvent the standards of legal training in India, therefore upholding the legacy of innovation and excellence that its namesake envisioned. As legal markets continue to expand and new regulatory frontiers arise, this school stands to redefine these standards.
