About the International Conference

The conference will examine the changing nature of globalisation and its relationship with law, particularly from South Asian perspectives. It will focus on how colonial histories and changing global relationships continue to influence legal systems, institutions and academic discussions.

The organisers aim to examine the ways in which traditional understandings of globalisation are being questioned and reshaped. The conference will particularly consider the influence of colonial and imperial legacies on legal concepts, institutions and knowledge production.

Although the conference will primarily focus on South Asia, researchers may also examine developments in other regions through comparative approaches.

Conference Themes and Research Areas

The conference invites papers addressing reflexive globalisation and its implications for law and legal discourse.

Researchers may explore reflexive globalisation in public law, public international law, criminal law, international criminal law, transitional justice and transnational law.

Submissions may also examine the practical dimensions of reflexive globalisation, including activism, litigation, campaigns and professional or academic networks.

Other suggested areas include the history and theory of globalisation, modernity and reflexivity, as well as the relationship between globalisation and other social phenomena in the context of law.

These themes are indicative, and researchers may develop proposals connected to the broader subject of the conference.

Eligibility and Who Can Apply

The conference welcomes submissions from legal scholars, researchers in the humanities and social sciences, and practitioners with academic interests.

The organisers particularly encourage contributions from scholars working on South Asian legal systems and related academic questions. Researchers from other regions may also submit proposals, especially where their work offers relevant comparative perspectives.

Early-career scholars are particularly encouraged to apply. The announcement does not prescribe a specific academic degree or minimum professional experience as an eligibility requirement.
