The Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) has invited applications for the position of Associate Fellow/Research Associate in its Foreign Policy and Security Studies vertical. The position is based in New Delhi and focuses on climate and clean energy diplomacy, particularly India and Southeast Asia relations.
The opportunity may be relevant for lawyers, researchers and academics working at the intersection of foreign policy, international relations, climate change, energy security, critical minerals and green trade. The selected candidate will be expected to lead research projects and engage with policymakers, diplomats, academics and other stakeholders.
Associate Fellow/Research Associate Vacancy at CSEP
The Associate Fellow/Research Associate will work within CSEP’s Foreign Policy and Security Studies vertical. The role requires expertise or substantial research interest in climate and clean energy diplomacy and familiarity with areas such as climate change, critical mineral supply chains, green trade and energy transition.
The selected candidate will lead original research concerning India-Southeast Asia relations, particularly in relation to climate and clean energy. The role also involves developing expert networks across the region and translating research findings into policy recommendations.
Research and Policy Responsibilities
The selected researcher will be responsible for leading original research on climate change and clean energy supply chains, with a particular focus on India and Southeast Asia. The role involves producing policy briefs, working papers, journal articles and opinion pieces for academic and policy audiences.
The researcher will also develop partnerships with academic institutions, think tanks and government agencies across Southeast Asia. The position includes representing CSEP at conferences, workshops and stakeholder engagements in India and internationally.
The selected candidate will further engage with policymakers, diplomats and multilateral organisations and contribute to research initiatives, grant proposals and public events. The role also includes mentoring junior researchers and research assistants.
Eligibility and Experience
Candidates should have a PhD in Public Policy, International Relations, Political Science, Developmental Studies, Climate Change, Southeast Asian Studies or a related discipline. Alternatively, candidates with a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline and at least 4 to 5 years of substantive professional research experience can apply.
Candidates should demonstrate an interest in Southeast Asian affairs, including political economy, foreign policy and bilateral relations with India and major powers. Expertise in climate change, clean energy, critical minerals, energy security or green trade is preferred.
A strong publication record or portfolio of high-quality policy outputs is expected in accordance with the candidate’s career stage. Applicants should also demonstrate the ability to independently lead research projects from conception through dissemination.
