The Mainz International Adjudication Centre (MAIAC) has invited applications for the First Mainz Masterclass in International Adjudication, which will take place on 9 April 2027 at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany.
The organisers may award one or two stipends of €500–€1,000 to particularly strong applicants to support participation-related expenses, which may assist with travel and accommodation costs.
About the Mainz Masterclass
The Masterclass will focus on “Evidence in International Adjudication” and will be led by Professor Campbell McLachlan KC of the University of Cambridge.
The programme will examine the presentation and testing of factual and expert evidence in international arbitration, combining important legal issues with practical examples drawn from reported cases.
Travel & Accommodation Funding
One or two selected applicants may receive a stipend of:
€500–€1,000
The stipend is intended to support participation-related expenses.
The announcement does not expressly state that flights and accommodation will be fully funded. Therefore, applicants should understand this as limited financial support toward participation expenses, rather than guaranteed full travel and accommodation funding.
Annual International Adjudication Lecture
The Masterclass will be accompanied by the Inaugural Annual International Adjudication Lecture, scheduled for the evening of 8 April 2027 at CMS Hasche Sigle in Frankfurt.
Masterclass participants are encouraged to attend the lecture and are advised to consider it when making their travel arrangements.

- Advanced Master’s students
- PhD students
- Early postdoctoral researchers, up to two years after their PhD defence
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit:
1. Expression of Interest
A short statement of maximum 500 words explaining:
- Why they are interested in the Masterclass
- Their interest in the subject of evidence in international adjudication
- Specific questions they would like to discuss
- Particular themes, cases, developments or controversies they would like to explore
2. Short CV
A CV of maximum two pages must also be submitted.
