The two creators of India are the great Emperors Ashoka and Akbar.
This is because they realised that India is a country with tremendous diversity, and hence only an inclusive policy which gives equal respect to all religions, races, and communities can hold the country together, and take it on the path of progress.
Around 250 BC Emperor Ashoka published the 12th Major Rock Edict ( found in Girnar at Junagadh, Gujarat, which I have seen when I went to Gujarat ) which says :
” King Devanam Priyadarshi respects all religions and sects.
People should not indulge in praising only their own religion, while disparaging other religions. If one only praises his own religion, and disparages other religions, he does great harm to his own religion.
His Majesty desires that people should listen to other religions, and understand their essence ”.
What great words coming from over 2200 years !
In my opinion they should be published in every nook and corner of India, to combat the atmosphere of polarisation which has been created nowadays by certain vested interests in our country, and which is doing great harm to India.
Similarly, the great Mughal Emperor Akbar ( 1542-1605 ) proclaimed his policy of suleh-e-kul i.e. giving equal respect to all religions and communities, and it was because of this inclusive policy that India prospered ( we had over 25% of the world’s GDP and trade under the Mughals ), and the reason why the Mughal Empire lasted so long.
