Supreme Court has overturned its own ruling on liquidation of Bhushan Steel and Power Limited (BSPL), overturning the order in which it had quashed a Rs 19,300 crore resolution plan by JSW Steel. A new bench after hearing the review petition by JSW Steel and other stakeholders decided that the earlier judgment had not given due consideration to legal precedents and it was an appropriate case where there should be a fresh hearing. The case is now to be heard upon re-argument: all legal questions are left open to argument.
A former Member of Parliament, Prajwal Revanna was sentenced to life imprisonment in a special court of Bengaluru after he was found guilty of raping a 47-year-old domestic worker. The court ruled that he was guilty of all the charges levelled against him including repeated rape, sexual harassments, voyeurism and criminal intimidation. The sentence was highlighted in the abuse of his strong authority and seriousness of crimes. The court has also ordered a large amount of fine, of which a good percentage will be compensated to the victim. This decision is the culmination of the first among the few cases of sexual offense against Revanna and is hailed as a big juncture of justice and accountability in India.
