PIL in P&H High Court Questions Haryana Cow Protection Law Amid Vigilantism Surge

In 2015 the state government took a step to protect and preserve the native breeds of cows and as a result, the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act was passed. It is among the strictest laws of cattle protection in the land. The Act subjects a total prohibition on the slaughter of cows, the sale of beef and export of cows to be slaughtered in the state of Haryana.

Actor Dulquer Salmaan Files Petition in Kerala High Court Challenging Customs Seizure of His Luxury Land Rover

The scandal started when the Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate in Kochi took steps against an imported car of the actor. The authorities of the department confiscated the Land Rover Defender, and this is an SUV that is of high quality and priced high with its off-road features. This confiscation was done by the Customs Act of 1962 which gives authorities the mandate to detain goods which they are convinced have been imported illegally.

Senior Advocate R Venkataramani Re-Appointed as Attorney General for Two More Years

R. Venkataramani is a well-known figure within the Indian legal fraternity, and his career dates back to more than forty years. In 1977 he started his legal career with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and in 1979 he transferred his practice to the Supreme Court of India. Such was his mastery of law and powerful oratory that in 1997 he was named Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court; the title is given to only a few attorneys of the highest caliber.

The case was started in the tumultuous months of August 2017. A special court of CBI in Panchkala on August 25 of the same year found the head of the Dera Sacha Sauda, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, guilty in a case of raping two of his adherents, women. The ruling served as a catalyst to a binge of violence, mainly in Panchkulawhere tens of thousands of Dera followers had gathered in the days before the verdict.
