Young Europeans interested in democracy, human rights, civic engagement, and democratic innovation have the chance to attend the World Forum for Democracy in Strasbourg, France, with a fully funded delegation opportunity through the Council of Europe. This unique experience will bring together young people from around the globe to contribute their unique perspective to the discussions about the future of democracy.
The 2026 World Forum for Democracy will be held in Strasbourg on 2-3 November 2026, focusing on the theme “Rupture or Renewal? Democratic Security for Our Future.” The Youth Delegation program itself, however, will run from 30 October to 5 November 2026, and will include preparatory and training activities before the Forum begins.
About the World Forum for Democracy
The World Forum for Democracy acts as an international platform where decision-makers, civil society representatives, academics, activists, and young people can come together to address the challenges faced by democratic societies and explore innovative solutions.
The 2026 edition will focus on how democracies can anticipate and respond to future challenges, enhance democratic resilience, and safeguard democratic institutions and values. Some of the key topics to be discussed will include civic participation, democratic security, disinformation, electoral integrity, social justice, and the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on democracy.
Fully Funded Opportunity
Selected participants of the Youth Delegation will benefit from financial support for their participation in Strasbourg. This will cover travel expenses, visa fees (where applicable under the rules of the Council of Europe), accommodation, and meals.
Beyond the World Forum itself, the Youth Delegation program includes a comprehensive training component, which will help participants prepare for the event and maximize their participation. They will then be able to engage in the World Forum for Democracy and the Youth Day, providing an opportunity to connect with other youth activists, policymakers, experts, and participants from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Eligibility Criteria
This opportunity is open to young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who are members of a youth organization or youth movement active in the field of democracy, youth participation, or innovative democratic engagement.
Applicants should have a genuine interest in contributing to debates about democracy and the future of democratic societies. They are required to be available for the entire program, including online preparatory activities and the program in Strasbourg. Furthermore, applicants must be proficient in English, as all discussions and materials will be in this language.
Prior experience with the Council of Europe’s Youth Sector can be an advantage but is not mandatory.
