A little thin blood may spurt from the film scribblers’ wounds by reason of this old slapstick routine, but clearly the filmgoing public has no such finicky threshold for entertainment. Indra Kumar’s ‘Dhamaal 4’, headlined by the deadpan seriousness of Ajay Devgn and the comic gravitas of the franchise veterans, Arshad Warsi and Riteish Deshmukh, has managed to shake off an avalanche of unfavourable reviews, to be an indisputable hit. The movie, which released on July 10, 2026, has well and truly sailed past the 100-crore mark on the global box office, five days into its release. Apparently, the series is impervious to panning. The pace of the comedy sequel at the ticket windows is rather unexpected in its refusal to toe the typical mid-week drop lines. Following a monumental first week collection of ₹65 crore (net, pan-India), and a predictable decline on Monday (₹8.75 crore net), the film surprised everyone Tuesday by registering an 8.38 percent day-on-day jump and earning ₹9.50 crore (net). The growth pushed the cumulative domestic net box office collections of the film to a neat ₹83.25 crore, translating to ₹99.44 crore gross (Indian box office). Coupled with ₹16 crore in the overseas market, the cumulative global gross for ‘Dhamaal 4’ is a healthy ₹115.44 crore.
A resilient franchise strikes back
With an estimated production budget hovering between ₹150 crore to ₹200 crore (a record for the franchise), ‘Dhamaal 4’ was tasked with a serious box-office challenge. The preliminary figures suggest the film is well on its way to becoming profitable, having registered better first-week performance compared to some of the recent big-ticket comedy outings. It appears the underlying appeal for boisterous ensemble humour still exists in both single-screen theatres and multiplexes.
Even though critics found the screenplay shallow, it is a testament to Devgn’s grounding in such comic roles that the banter between Devgn and Sanjay Mishra is enough to pack in audiences for weekdays.
With no major Hindi film releases due till the Independence Day weekend, ‘Dhamaal 4’ stands an excellent chance to consolidate its domestic total.
