The US war aim has changed

Celebrations are going on in America over the rescue of a US pilot whose F-15 jet was shot down over Iran, with President Trump leading the chorus, shouting ” We got him ”x

But there is another side to this apparently rosy picture.

It seems that the US war aim now is no longer a regime change in Iran ( as it was initially ) but to rescue US pilots whose planes are shot down by Iranians.

Donald Trump has threatened that he will send Iran back into the stone ages.. This reminds us of the language used by US Gen Curtis Lemay during the Vietnam war. But everyone knows how the Vietnam war ended.

This intemperate language shows Trump’s deepening frustration, since what was expected to be a quick Venezuela type in-and-out operation has turned into a quagmire ( as in Vietnam ), with the war dragging on for over 5 weeks, and no end in sight, and with Iranian missiles and drones continuing to strike Israel and US bases and assets in the middle eastern countries unabated.

Iran’s powerful allies China and Russia are undoubtedly secretly supplying much of the advanced defence technology to it for this
