Dileep’s Dark Conspiracy: Accused, Charges, and 28 Hostile Witnesses in the Kerala Actress Assault Saga

The Kerala actress attack scandal commenced on a horrible night in 2017 of February that rocked the whole Indian film industry. One of the Malayalam movie stars was on her way to Thrissur to Kochi in her car when she was stopped by a group of men. These men violently got into her car and kept her as a hostage several hours as they drove around the city. During this captivity, she was allegedly brutally violated by the prime accused, Sunil Kumar, who is more famously known as Pulsar Suni.

The atrocious ordeal was not a random violence act but it was a so-called quotation or a contract crime. The men who carried out the attack shot the scene on a cell phone, supposedly to sell the images to blackmail or humiliate. This event revealed the shady side of the movie business, where criminality can be employed to take personal vengeance.

The search soon shifted to the direct culprits who were arrested a few days following the murder. Police even started to suspect that Pulsar Suni himself was just a chess piece, and that there was a bigger and darker game to play. The survivor had been very brave as she reported the crime instantaneously prompting the police to crack down on it. As the investigators probed further the name of a leading actor started appearing in relation to the gang. The prosecution claimed that the motive was to avenge the survivor who went public with information about the supposed affair of Dileep with his former wife, Manju Warrier.

The case relied on the allegations that this personal revenge made Dileep reach out to Pulsar Suni to do the murder. The allegations indicated that he gave a 1.5 crore rupees to Suni to rape the actress and capture the incident. Such conspiracy was reported as being hatched many years before the crime was actually executed. Dileep was accused of such severe clauses in the Indian Penal Code as criminal conspiracy. His arrest has seen him expelled by several film organizations and a massive outcry expressed against him. He was then put in jail to serve 85 days and then was released on bail but the tinge of the charges lingered behind.

The Trial of Betrayals: 28 Unfriendly witnesses.

Another area that has elicited so much controversy regarding this saga has been the conduct of witnesses at the trial. When the trial started, prosecution banked on the eyewitnesses of individuals in the film industry. Nevertheless, the case experienced an ugly trend with witness after witness starting to alter their statements. The number of witnesses who changed side and went hostile in the trial is staggering, at 28. These are people who had already made statements to the police which gave credence to the conspiracy theory or implicated Dileep with the accused.

Most of these aggressive witnesses were actors and other people who had employed both the survivor and Dileep. The fact that they retracted cases in the court was regarded as a big blow to the cause of justice. An example is the denial of knowledge of the quotation or the grudge by those who had previously stated that they were aware of the quotation. The survivor was now to wage a single-handed battle because her own fraternity appeared to turn its back upon her. Instead, the defense has challenged that a police frame-up has been perpetrated against Dileep. They argue that this investigation was one-sided and that the evidence was fake to entrap a successful actor. The case took a different twist in late 2021 when director Balachandrakumar entered.
